The material of the nitrile gloves is a synthetic rubber (acrylonitrile butadiene rubber). They hardly differ in handling from conventional latex gloves, but are slightly less elastic and stretchy than latex gloves. Nevertheless, they are quite robust and significantly more stretchy than, for example, simple vinyl gloves. The wearing comfort is also comparable to a latex glove, as is the tactile sensation when working. The complete absence of latex makes the nitrile glove the first choice for allergy sufferers who react to latex proteins.
Nitrile's key advantages lie in its resistance to various substances: handling alcohols, solvents, acids, fats and oils is no problem at all. In contrast, latex or vinyl hand gloves react with fat and oil, which is why they are hardly suitable for processing food, for example.
There is therefore no alternative to nitrile gloves when handling and processing food. However, for use in catering and the like, a food safety declaration should be available for the individual models.
